The first book is “STUBBORN” by Andy “Bobcaygeon” Junkin. Family business and family farm businesses specifically can be a deep pile of dysfunction. The solution is to be willing to talk to each other as adults and work on our “stuff” and hold all generations accountable to stop thinking of the farm as “my” farm and shift it to “OUR” farm. Andy’s premise is to shift the “Stubborn” from a negative mindset that causes family farms to fail into a useful empowered, POSITIVE kind of stubborn that causes family farms or businesses to THRIVE.
The 2nd book is “The Homesteading Tsunami” by Joel Salatin. The revolution in food production is happening pretty much under the radar of the mainstream media. People continue to move out of the cities and into more rural areas where significant amounts of food can be grown on small to medium acreages by FAMILIES. These books should probably be read together… out loud at the dinner table. Cuz even the best families have… “stuff.”
Instead of being in denial about our “stuff” it might be time to work on it… together.
Just sayin’ :o)
In the meantime, Spike and Luna say “hi!” or “Woof” to their many adoring fans. and I am ALMOST ready to COMMIT to taking all the junk that was in the garage that is now BEHIND the garage in bags to the dump… and then there’s the mess between the house and the garage… and the OTHER piles out by the shed….
Well… you get the idea. Spring is here. Time to gear up for the growing season without losing our minds or our relationships or our spiritual grounding…
Cowabungah Shazaam!
Peace! Love! Groovyness!
